Penta-O-galloyl-beta-D-glucose induces G1 arrest and DNA replicative S-phase arrest independently of cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor 1A, cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor 1B and P53 in human breast cancer cells and is orally active against triple negative xenograft growth

Conclusions:
Our in vitro and in vivo data support PGG as a potential drug candidate for breast cancer with novel targeting actions, especially for a triple negative BCa xenograft model. (Source: Breast Cancer Research) Source: MedWorm: Oral Cancer

NCT01110291: induction of CYP3A activity and lowered exposure to docetaxel in patients with primary breast cancer

Conclusions  We show here a markedly reduced docetaxel exposure followed by CYP3A induction by, most likely, dexamethasone. Peroral midazolam
seemed not to predict docetaxel exposure. Slow CYP3A-mediated metabolism might predispose patients to adverse events of docetaxel.

Prevention: Oral bisphosphonate use may protect women from breast cancer

Nature Reviews Clinical Oncology 7, 482 (2010). doi:10.1038/nrclinonc.2010.126

Author: Rebecca Kirk
Bisphosphonates are commonly prescribed for the treatment of osteoporosis and for the prevention of cancer-induced bone loss. Interest in the potential of bisphosphonates for the prevention of cancer was sparked by a publication last year by Michael Gnant and coworkers. They reported that intravenous adjuvant (Source: Nature Clinical Practice Oncology) Source: MedWorm: Oral Cancer

Oral contraceptive use associated with increased risk of breast cancer in African-American women, study finds

Researchers have reported that African-American women who use oral contraceptives have a greater likelihood of developing breast cancer than nonusers. The study results were based on data from the Black Women’s Health Study, a large follow-up study of 59,000 African-American women from across the US conducted by investigators at the Slone Epidemiology Center since 1995. Effect of Body Mass Index on Recurrences in Tamoxifen and Anastrozole Treated Women: An Exploratory Analysis From the ATAC Trial [Breast Cancer]

Conclusion
These results confirm the poorer prognosis of obese women with early-stage breast cancer. Recurrence rates were lower for anastrozole than tamoxifen for all BMI quintiles. Our results suggest that the relative efficacy of anastrozole compared to tamoxifen is greater in thin postmenopausal women and higher doses or more complete inhibitors might be more effective in overweight women, but this requires independent confirmation.
